Approaching Baroque Music With Primary Sources (and Without Fear!)
Presented by Dr. Linda H. Pereksta
Baroque music is a cornerstone of our repertoire, yet many very capable flutists are still uncomfortable with aspects of Baroque style and performance practice.  This purpose of this session is to help demystify much of that with an approach that nurtures curiosity and exploration, and is designed for modern flutists who wish to become more comfortable with baroque repertoire.  It takes a relatively small amount of information to begin to feel more empowered, and one approach is to connect with a distant time period in a more direct and visceral way. We will start with primary sources, and with the assumption that each of us is capable of making our own informed musical decisions.  After all, the most historically “authentic” thing you can do is to adapt the music to make it your own.  This is very much a participatory session, so attendees should bring flutes and sensible shoes!
